In March, I was at the International Housewares Show in Chicago. As usual, the StudTHUD was a big hit. Everyone that saw it…loved it! I’m doing all that I can to make it available for purchase as soon as possible. Check back here often and I’ll keep you posted.

Congratulations to Bunnings Warehouse in Australia! They are the first store in the world to carry the StudTHUD!!! Look for them in the USA early 2012.
It’s been 4 years since I set out on my mission to invent a stud finder that actually lives up to its name. As the saying goes, “Build it and they will come.” Well it looks like that is what is happening with my StudTHUD®. Folks from all over the world are coming here to check it out. They’re not asking for much. They just want a stud finder that really works. That’s all.
The StudTHUD® is going to change how you feel about stud finders.
Some history:
Back in February of 2008, I decided that I had bought my last piece of junk stud finder! I was going to invent my own. One that REALLY worked.
I didn’t know how I was going to do it but I knew it had to be magnetic. By using magnetism, I could go looking for the metal fasteners that are used to hold the wallboard to the studs. Even though these fasteners are hidden below the surface, a strong magnet is able to detect their presence. Once the magnet indicates that it’s found something metal, the next step is for you to find more fasteners that are located in a logical pattern indicating that you’ve located an actual stud and not some random screw.
On the other hand, every single electronic one out there can only make an “educated guess” as to where they think the studs are. They make their decision based totally on speculation. They don’t know the difference between studs, pipes or a blob of plaster.
I don’t know about you, but when I mount my new flat screen TV on the wall, I don’t want it to come crashing down to the floor because my stud finder guessed wrong.
So anyway, back in June 2009, I entered DIY Network’s “Cool Tools” Inventor’s challenge with a relatively crude version of my “StudTHUD®” invention. Out of 300 entries, I was able to place in the top 15. They then had me sign all the standard release forms because it looked like I was going to fly out to Colorado to appear on the television show!
How cool was that?
But I didn’t make it into the final round. Which wasn’t cool at all. But within a couple of months, I was able to make some very significant improvements.
That’s when I decided that the StudTHUD® was ready for prime time.
I produced my own infomercial in December 2009 and within only a few days it caught the interest of a well known gorilla manufacturer…um, I mean glue manufacturer. They were very excited about licensing the StudTHUD from me. But the negotiations were difficult and I decided to do it on my own.
A small production run was completed in October 2011 and this first order went to Bunnings in Australia. Since then, I’ve been working to improve the tooling to allow better performance of the StudTHUD. It’s been a very slow process…but I won’t give up. You have my word.
I get emails all the time from folks all over the globe. People have been waiting a long time for a stud finder like this.
The StudTHUD®, with its ease of use and guaranteed accuracy is going to be the one that all other stud finders are compared to.

I’m contacted all the time by people who want to tell me their stud finder horror stories. They are waiting (impatiently) for the StudTHUD® to hit the market. Some of them expressed such enthusiasm for the StudTHUD® that I sent them a free prototype.
